 | | Although he is still in his teens, Taylor Lautner is already a globally successful actor. Currently Hollywood’s most highly paid teenager, Lautner is best known for his role as Jacob Black, in the Twilight film series based on Stephenie Meyer’s vampire novels. Together with his fellow co-stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, Lautner has achieved a level of fame that other young actors can only dream of. Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner have also received an incredible amount of media attention. Together, the three have spent many of their most formative years in the limelight. Fortunately, Lautner shows a remarkable equilibrium in the face of this intense media interest. Indeed, for someone so young, it is clear that Lautner nurses a fierce determination and desire to pursue his career as an actor rather than to simply enjoy his fame.

Taylor Daniel Lautner was born on 11 February 1992 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. Lautner grew up in a close-knit family with his younger sister, Makena. Lautner’s father worked as a commercial airline pilot. His mother worked at a computer software company. But even at an early age, Lautner revealed special talents. He proved to be exceptionally good at martial arts. Lautner, who trained with seven-time world karate champion Mike Chat, had also represented the USA in the World Karate Championships. As he grew up, Lautner went on to win a number of internationally-recognised awards and prizes for his martial arts skills.
And it was Lautner’s incredible talent in karate that had steered him towards acting. His teacher, Mike Chat, was also involved in show business. Chat encouraged Lautner to audition for a part in a Burger King commercial. However, the audition was unsuccessful. But despite this, the experience changed the young boy’s ambitions and view of life forever. He went home from the audition to tell his parents that his life goal now was to act.
