Few fictional detectives and film stars compare with the legend that is James Bond. Wherever you go in the world, it seems that everyone is a fan of this charming but ruthless English character. The novelist, Ian Fleming, wrote his first James Bond book in 1953. James Bond started out as a British Navy Commander who becomes special agent “007” for the government. This gives Bond his “license to kill” where the interests of his country are at stake. From this beginning, Bond has become one of the greatest film franchises of all time. No matter who plays the role, Bond enjoys a cult following that has spawned countless books, magazines, sales items and media attention.

As a character, James Bond is all about style. He always looks great in his trademark dinner jacket. He drives an elegant, extremely fast Aston Martin. He wears a Rolex Submariner watch on his wrist. He

takes his drinks “shaken, not stirred”. Cool as he is, special agent Bond has been saving the world from the power-crazed villains for over 50 years. There is no sign yet that fans want him to stop doing so!

Over the years, the films depicting the adventures of Bond have all become cult classics. The launch of every new Bond film is a prestigious red-carpet affair. Playing Bond turns an actor into a global megastar overnight. In chronological order, the famous actors to play Bond have been Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Fans argue passionately about which of these actors has been the best Bond ever. There are those who say that the less well-remembered Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby actually deserve to claim this title.
